Hi, I’m Rory McDonnell, and I am the Vice Chair of Governors at Normandy. I have been a governor at Pelham Primary School for six years, and now a governor at Normandy for almost a year. I originally joined as a governor to support the deaf children at Pelham who are placed within the hearing impaired provision, but my interest in the whole school grew stronger over time and I have enjoyed seeing Pelham go from strength to strength over that time.
I visited Normandy Primary many times before becoming a governor. I am a teacher of the deaf and I used to visit the hearing impaired children within the school to offer advice and support about how best to help them. I have always found the school very welcoming! Its great to now come back and support the whole school as it develops and grows. I have lived in the borough for nineteen years and I have a strong belief that all our children deserve to go to excellent schools where they can learn and achieve their best.
I work as the Team Leader of a busy Sensory Service in Greenwich and I have been a teacher for twenty five years. I use my experience and belief in a good education for all to support the Head and staff at Normandy.
Away from schools and education I like to raise funds for cancer research and speak in support of cancer charities.
